- Dixie EagleAug, 11 2018★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆I wish to know why you are not interested in the Man from Athens Ga Named Rufus Lafayette Moss Sr? He was a man that seems the history books have failed to give him his place in Ga history. He did so much to open up trade and Travel to nothreast Georgia. He was a wealthy man from the 1800,s. He owned the Princeton Cotton Mills in Athens Ga, He owned the White Hall Mill in Athens. He owned a Bank. He owned the Athens Gas Light company. He fought in the Civil War in Howell Cobbs Leagon. He formed the Northeast Railroad Company and was chartered to run a railroad North out of Athens to what was (Harmomy Grove) Now Commerce Ga. Before Govener Hardman was Govener He also had a cotton mill. Rufus Lafayette Moss Sr. Worked with Hardman to run the railroad thru the town right down main street where it is today to hook up with Hardmans mill. Nexet Moss took the road north to what is now the town of Lula. The town named after Rufus L Moss Daughter. The road hooked to the main line of the railroad running from Atlanta to Greenville SC. At Cornelia Moss truned the road Northeast to what would become the Resort Town of Tallulah Falls. Moss made Talluolah Falls. He Built the Railroad Station. He Built his second Home there. He called it his summer house. So he could be near the road he was building. Moss owned all the land around Tallulah Falls. Mr Rufus Lafayette Moss Sr. built the cliff house hotel and owned it. He owned The Tallulah Gorge. That is right. He sold part of the Gorge to The Georgia Power &Light Company. They built the first Dam in the state that would produce power to Atlanta. Now Mrs Longstreet is noted to have protested the sale and it is all well documented. Except who the power company bought the land from.(Rufus Lafayette Moss Sr. Father of the Tallulah Falls Railroad. Again I state my case. Moss did so much and I find NO where where Moss gets any credit from the powers that be. Your own organization. Please provide me Information if you have it to where I am wrong. I bought the Moss house AKA Pine Terrace. I did a extensive title search on this. This is how I found out a good bit of what I have told you. I would Like the Moss Family get the Credit they desirve. A Plaque to honor this family. Four Generations of the Family Owned the Moss House in Tallulah Falls Ga, Built in 1879,sold by the 4th generation in 1981. I am restoring the House to Rufus Lafayette Moss Sr, Spects. The best I can with Historians help. I think it will take me Ten years to do it right. Each room with period Furnishings. I am Dan A Hayes I wanted this message out to you so you can add this Man and his accomplishments to Georgia History. He Knew men Like Hardman,Hancock,Pulaski. He went to UGA as a young man. I found that out on the UGA website. Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from some one about this soon. Reguards Dan A Hayes
